Technoproducenten och dj:n Jeff Mills återvänder efter sin slutsålda spelning på Malmö Live 2015, denna gång tillsammans med afrobeatens fader Tony Allen. Missa inte när två av världens mest innovativa beatmakers skapar en genreöverskridande mix av digitalt och analogt, jazz och elektro, Afrika och Amerika.

Jeff Mills skulle inte kunna önska sig en bättre partner än afrobeatens fader Tony Allen. Många anser att Allen är en av vår tids största trummis. Under de senaste 30 åren har hans blandning av polyglot jazz, no-fuss funkiness spridit sig som ett virus världen över och påverkat musiker och konstnärer som Damon Albarn, Charlotte Gainsbourg och Moritz Oswald.

Mills är en legend inom elektronisk musik och var med om att starta upp Detroits technoscen under 80-talet. Han har sedan byggt på sitt register genom att komponera elektroniska symfonier och filmmusik inspirerade av futurism och rymdäventyr. Mills har många gånger tagit sina projekt ett steg längre med hjälp av visuella konstnärer, koreografer, klassiska orkestrar och t.o.m. astronauter. Även i samarbetet med Tony Allen vill Mills komma åt något som är större än själva musiken. Vi arbetar tillsammans för att uppnå något större än oss själva, säger han. ”Det handlar verkligen om ett rent samarbete, inte bara via musik, utan även mellan våra sinnen och själar.”

Samma gäller för Tony Allen. Han har redan samarbetat med elektro-artister under sin karriär men detta är något utöver det vanliga. "Skillnaden är att Jeff kan spela med mig, där andra inte kan. Jag kan spela med dem, men de kan inte spela med mig, fattaru?" Allt handlar om att pricka rätt och hitta “ettan” i rytmen. Uppvuxen på västafrikanska rytmers råa komplexitet och bebopens sofistikerade tolkning därav i 40- och 50-talets USA, upptäckte Tony för länge sen att “ettan” ofta dyker upp där man minst anar det. "Med Jeff är det lätt. Jag förklarade att ibland ska beatet in på baskaggen, och ibland på virveln. Han fattar var “ettan” är, han kan räkna", förklarar Allen.

Första gången paret spelade tillsammans var i december 2016 på The New Morning i Paris. Att få uppleva duon live är en möjlighet att få se två av vår tids mest banbrytande artister inom rytm och elektronisk musik. Där trummor och syntar, det förflutna och framtiden smälter samman till en intensiv, sömlös nutid. "Jag tror att vi har lyckats skapa något som inte funnits tidigare" säger Tony Allen.

Le pionnier de la techno est de retour à La Belle.
Après plusieurs passages enflammés, c'est aux côtés du parisien DJ Deep qu'il sévira cette fois !

■ Jeff Mills (Axis - Chicago UK) - Dj set Techno

DJ & producteur de techno le plus brillant du monde. Il est la figure emblématique de la techno made in Détroit, là où il a commencé sa carrière en tant que DJ à la radio WDRQ en 1984. Il a créé avec « Mad Mike Banks» le collectif « UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE», qui est devenu une référence dans l’électro sphère. En 1992, Jeff Mills crée son propre label «Axis» pour garder son indépendance artistique et produire ses propres compositions de musique électronique intemporelles, inspirées de la science fiction. Passionné par l'espace et le temps, ce musicien aux multiples projets artistiques enchaîne les performances inédites et chargées de sens : réécriture de la bande originale du célèbre "Métropolis" de Fritz Lang en 2000, création d'une expérience sensorielle hors du commun "The Trip" en 2009 ou encore le plus récent projet "Time Tunnel", explorant le passé, le présent et le futur autour d'une surprenante représentation que certains d'entre vous ont pu vivre à Paris. Pour Jeff, l'avenir est un puissant élan créatif qui explique l'activité incessante de l'artiste.

■ Dj Deep

DJ parisien, personnage essentiel de la musique électronique, il a participé à l’arrivée en France de la deep house au cours des années 1990. Artiste ultra polyvalent, il sort en 2015 l’EP de techno intense Adventice avec Romain Poncet. Pas question de mettre la house de côté pour autant. Le producteur continue à sortir des titres dans les deux styles, notamment sur son propre label Deeply Rooted mais aussi sur Rekids (Official) ou encore Tresor.Berlin (OFFICIAL).

■ SEKHEM SOUNDSYSTEM - Sekhem Records (Grenoble)

Sekhem est un collectif de dj et artistes cherchant à divertir par leur identité musicale authentique. Partageant leur passion pour le new beat, l'acid house et les sonorités tripantes, c'est dans un univers rave qu'évolue cet équipage. Un décollage efficace, une imprudente exploration.

Jeff Mills, along with Robert Hood, Carl Craig, and Joey Beltram, is one of the biggest American names in techno. We are so excited to have him perform at our venue on the 30th of August alongside our local heroes: Billie Jo, Lego and Damien Eie.

Deeply inhabited by science-fiction, DJ, producer and artist Jeff Mills adopts its ideas, concepts, stories and esthetics from the outset. For him, Space is an obsession and his music almost becomes a musical science-fiction.

Conquering space, his music embodies the future while both respecting the past and remaining well into the present. When he founded his own record label Axis in 1992 -a logo consisting of four triangles pointing to an invisible center-, Mills takes the rotating principle of the solar system as aesthetics, concept and model for creativity.

From the beginning, his first releases explore futuristic and science fiction topics such as "Mutant theory," "Tomorrow," "Art / UFO", "Time Machine" and "Alpha Centauri". For Jeff Mills, the future is a powerful creative drive which explains the artist's ceaseless activity.
