On the 25th of August, music lovers will converge to the Middenvijver site, a stone’s throw from Antwerp's city center, to discover the wide spectrum of electronic music varying from techno and house to ambient and future jazz during Ampere Open Air. The one day festival will feature more than 50 artists divided over 5 stages and will be teaming up with the infamous Boiler Room as a stage host and live-streaming partner.

▧ ABOUT AMPERE OPEN AIR ▧

Ampere Open Air presents an accessible event with a wide spectrum of musical diversity and opportunities for local initiatives, with an accent on sustainability and equality.

The first edition of the festival will feature iconic DJ’s like Jeff Mills, MARCEL DETTMANN and Recondite. Newly announced headliners include the house legend and co-founder of Innervisions Dixon and the Miami-based owner of the infamous Life and Death label Dj Tennis.

Ampere Open Air is also giving festival-goers the chance to discover Valentin Tszin’s unique performance: the Russian-born artist and dance researcher has made a name exploring the worlds of architecture, film, contemporary art, theatre and new media, and has been producing his most recent works in collaboration with various techno musicians. A rare opportunity for the crowd to witness a beautiful, innovative and out of the box evolution of arts and electronic music.

Another highlight of the festival will be an hommage to nightlife pioneer and originator of the famous sound of Belgium Yves Deruyter. Deruyter had a significant impact on the development of electronic music in our country and beyond, producing an impressive amount of classic tunes released on the legendary Bonzai record label. He was a resident at iconic clubs such as Cherry Moon, Globe and Barocci, and a regular guest at memorable raves like May Day and Love Parade.

Joining the line-up as well, the minimal golden child Ion Ludwig will perform live, while the mystical Lost Desert is expected to deliver one of his characteristic eery DJ sets. Straight from Berlin, the young and talented Emily Jeanne will return to her homeland to show what she’s been up to.

On the local front, the Deep Down live duo Pur Sang and collective From Italo To Disco Sound System are joining an already packed line up representing Antwerp’s highest calibre talents.

Previously announced names include Raresh & Praslea’s project Praslesh, London kid Ben Hayes, the Belgians of Borokov Borokov and many more local and international talents.

Attendees will be given a worthwhile experience, where music, culture and creativity collide to create something inspiring and renewing.

Jeff Mills, along with Robert Hood, Carl Craig, and Joey Beltram, is one of the biggest American names in techno. We are so excited to have him perform at our venue on the 30th of August alongside our local heroes: Billie Jo, Lego and Damien Eie.

Deeply inhabited by science-fiction, DJ, producer and artist Jeff Mills adopts its ideas, concepts, stories and esthetics from the outset. For him, Space is an obsession and his music almost becomes a musical science-fiction.

Conquering space, his music embodies the future while both respecting the past and remaining well into the present. When he founded his own record label Axis in 1992 -a logo consisting of four triangles pointing to an invisible center-, Mills takes the rotating principle of the solar system as aesthetics, concept and model for creativity.

From the beginning, his first releases explore futuristic and science fiction topics such as "Mutant theory," "Tomorrow," "Art / UFO", "Time Machine" and "Alpha Centauri". For Jeff Mills, the future is a powerful creative drive which explains the artist's ceaseless activity.

Le pionnier de la techno est de retour à La Belle.
Après plusieurs passages enflammés, c'est aux côtés du parisien DJ Deep qu'il sévira cette fois !

■ Jeff Mills (Axis - Chicago UK) - Dj set Techno

DJ & producteur de techno le plus brillant du monde. Il est la figure emblématique de la techno made in Détroit, là où il a commencé sa carrière en tant que DJ à la radio WDRQ en 1984. Il a créé avec « Mad Mike Banks» le collectif « UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE», qui est devenu une référence dans l’électro sphère. En 1992, Jeff Mills crée son propre label «Axis» pour garder son indépendance artistique et produire ses propres compositions de musique électronique intemporelles, inspirées de la science fiction. Passionné par l'espace et le temps, ce musicien aux multiples projets artistiques enchaîne les performances inédites et chargées de sens : réécriture de la bande originale du célèbre "Métropolis" de Fritz Lang en 2000, création d'une expérience sensorielle hors du commun "The Trip" en 2009 ou encore le plus récent projet "Time Tunnel", explorant le passé, le présent et le futur autour d'une surprenante représentation que certains d'entre vous ont pu vivre à Paris. Pour Jeff, l'avenir est un puissant élan créatif qui explique l'activité incessante de l'artiste.

■ Dj Deep

DJ parisien, personnage essentiel de la musique électronique, il a participé à l’arrivée en France de la deep house au cours des années 1990. Artiste ultra polyvalent, il sort en 2015 l’EP de techno intense Adventice avec Romain Poncet. Pas question de mettre la house de côté pour autant. Le producteur continue à sortir des titres dans les deux styles, notamment sur son propre label Deeply Rooted mais aussi sur Rekids (Official) ou encore Tresor.Berlin (OFFICIAL).
